Event Leader -  Walter Cramer

For those who were unable to Join Walter on the Saturday, May 1, Dieffenbach Potato Chip drive, you now have the opportunity to drive those same beloved Miata roads on Sunday, May 16th.  Although the potato chip factory is not open on Sundays, the experience of those 100 plus miles of Miata roads and beautiful scenery is certainly “worth the price of admission”.  Our first leg of travel is approximately two hours (Opting not to have that second cup of coffee may be a wise decision).  Traveling back into Lehigh County on nice, curvy roads, lunch will be an option at Hops Fogelsville Hotel., which offers outdoor dining.

It you attended Walter’s previous drive and want to do it again, you are more than welcome to join in on the fun.

Be sure to let Walter know if you wish to go to the restaurant!

This event will follow the current Pennsylvania rules for COVID-19 safety.  We will require that all participants maintain six-foot social distancing, and we will require masks to be worn when not in our cars.  To avoid common handling of materials, we will email the directions to participants, for home printing, and we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet.  Since the sign-in confirms your agreement with LVMOC’s standard Waiver and Release, we will now consider your post to this event thread, indicating that you intend to participate, to be your “electronic” signature and your agreement with said Waiver and Release (copy available on request).

We will use FRS radios for communications.  Be sure to arrive by ~9:30 a.m. with a full gas tank and an empty bladder 😉.

I want a Lou turn sticker!! How much are they?!

Unfortunately, Warren, these are no longer available.

Here's the history of the "Lou Turn" decals:  They were sold by LVMOC to its members, for $5 each, to accumulate funds for a Club contribution to the American Heart Association, in memory of Louis DePaul, LVMOC President.  Lou died due to a heart attack in September, 2015.  He was noted for his numerous U-turns while leading Club drives, thus the term, “Lou Turn”, was coined.  All the decals were sold.

@flying-dutchman

Very nice explanation, David. So happy new members are able to read this bit of LVMOC history. I remember back in late 2015 Club members talking about a way we can offer a tribute to Lou. At the time two suggestions were offered, the "Lou Turn" decals and Ralph's "Lou Turn" buttons / pins honoring Lou. I find it enriching that five years later Lou's legacy continues to live on.

Very cool to hear this history of the club!! I thought it was a mistype for “u turn”!!  It’s nice to learn inside knowledge  of the club and become a part of it.
