As most of you know, every year on January 1, some of our more adventurous members head out for our annual top-down Polar Bear Drive in all but the worst winter conditions. The Un-Polar Bear Drive is the summer version of the New Year's Day event, at which our hardy troopers gather with their winter gear stored in their trunks (inluding ski hats, mitts, jackets, wool scarves, shovels, etc.) and then pose in that gear while baking under the hot sun for a photo shoot 🤪 . This is followed by the quick shedding of gear and a drive that includes curves and cones... Ice Cream Cones, that is (after all, we must involve something icy!).
The drive will begin at the south end of the Weis Market parking lot, near Winchester Road. We will re-visit some of the roads from previous Un-Polar Bear drives, and there will be some new additions to the route.
Our lunch / ice cream stop will be at Heisler's Cloverleaf Dairy, near Tamaqua, for treats that should be appropriate for what will hopefully be a warm, sunny day. We suggest that you bring a picnic lunch, or, if you wish, Heisler's has burgers, hot dogs, barbeque, pierogies, etc. There is a covered pavilion with tables and benches, or you might want to bring camping / folding chairs.
After visiting Heisler's, we will follow more fun roads to the drive's end at the intersection of Main St (Old U.S. 22) and PA-100, in Fogelsville.
This event will follow the current Pennsylvania rules for COVID-19 safety. To avoid common handling of materials, we will email the directions to participants, for home printing, and we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet. Since the sign-in confirms your agreement with LVMOC’s standard Waiver and Release, we will now consider your post to this event thread, indicating that you intend to participate, to be your “electronic” signature, indicating your agreement with said Waiver and Release (copy available on request).
This drive will be limited to 20 cars, including the leader, with priority given to paid LVMOC members. If the 20-car limit is not met, we will open the drive to non-members.
We will use FRS radios for communications. Be sure to arrive at the departure point with a full gas tank and an empty bladder .

As of today the weather forecast is not great for Sunday. @alisunshine, you to muster up all our super powers for us.

I promise, no blizzard! 🤣
The forecast that I saw says that there is a 60% chance that it WON’T rain on Sunday. I will do my best. 😎
As of now, I'm seeing that Sunday's showers are predicted to arrive "mainly after 3 p.m." We'll have to see how Sunday's forecast looks by Saturday. Wave the magic wand, Alison!

Ugh, would love to attend but have a 50th bday party that day.
Have fun!
I'd sure like to attend my 50th birthday party... I'd do that any day 😆!

I’m completely new to this. I might come.
@satyenbaldev Thank you for your interest in our Club! Hopefully, from this point forward, you will always refer to it, as YOUR CLUB. We meet up. Socialize for a little. Pee. Don't want to forget that, otherwise you spend the next hour thinking that you should have gone...
Then we drive on a bunch of back roads that emphasize just how good of a car you are in, then we reach our destination, which is in this case food/ice cream, and it gives all of us the chance to talk about the drive, and our cars. Good times. Good times.
Each of our Runs have a different flavor, and the flavor of the run can change with who is leading it, how many are attending, and of course, if your bladder is empty or not. The Club is a friendly Club. Consider it yours!

In what cases isn't the destination food/ice cream?
@triviawayne reasonably valid point. But much of that is due to the Rona. I had a drive last year that went to Jerry's classic car Collectibles. I spoke to Iva, who is creating a Eastern Wine Tour, that will go on the schedule soon. I am working on my own wine Tours, and a distillery. I also have to plan out a drive to Boyertown Historic Auto Museum. And Mike Weil is finalizing a Pagoda Run.
So there is diversity in the works!

Please add Arnold to the list!
Hey! Add David W. to the list! I don’t know if Nell will be up for it tomorrow or not, but I’ll be there!
Excited to see a drive starting only an hour away from me!

Rather than be a maybe and taking a spot... Becky & I are going to bail out on this drive.
Hoping for better weather for the next one.
Thanks for the heads-up, Ralph. (I'll eat your share of the ice cream...)

Thanks to all who braved the showers (light and brief, fortunately) today (13 cars)! The cooler temperature, compared to the past week or so, was a welcome benefit.
And, thanks to Annette and Jim for capably tailing the group, Corrina and Louie for providing mid-group reports, and to Janice, my co-pilot, for keeping me on course.
BTW, in future Un-Polar Bear drives, I'll slot a comfort break into the first leg, for "coffee relief" 😖!

I hereby solemnly swear I shall never again drink a large coffee before a LVMOC drive.
Signed, my bladder. 😂🤣😂
