BRIAN'S FAMOUS (INFAMOUS?) EXCURSION THRU THE BEAUTIFUL NORTH-CENTRAL PA COUNTRYSIDE

                                  Arrive:                     9:00 a.m.

                                  Depart:                    9:45 a.m.

Where -                  Meet at Sheetz, Sugarloaf Township

                                  551 PA-93, Sugarloaf, PA 18249   LOCATION

PLEASE NOTE:  IF YOU WISH TO JOIN BRIAN ON A PRE-RUN OF THIS DRIVE, ON APRIL 29, PLEASE SEND BRIAN A PERSONAL MESSAGE AT "WOWAK" FOR MORE INFORMATION.  THANKS!

Event Leader:  Brian Wowak

Join me for 124 miles of exquisite central Pennsylvania mountain and valley roads!  The first segment departs from Sheetz and rolls through gentle farm land before circling around and climbing over Nescopeck Mountain, leading into a breezy run down the Scotch Valley before looping around the foot of the mountain at the other end to our rest stop at Loves Travel Stop in Mifflinville.

From there we'll travel east along the Susquehanna river to Nescopeck where we'll turn south and head back into the hills before looping back to West where we'll cross a covered bridge over Catawissa Creek before settling back into the rolling farmlands along the Susquehanna river as we approach Danville.  Time-permitting we may stop at a predetermined location for a group photo of our Miatas and drivers.  Near Danville we'll stop for Brunch (hopefully...) at the Cherokee Taphouse and Grille.

After brunch we'll head back into the rolling hills and valley roads east of Numedia, where we'll pass the Roaring Creek Friends Meeting House, a Quaker house of worship build of log construction in 1795-96. From there we'll continue southeast over the Little Mountain where we'll skirt the edges of Ringtown before heading north on Rt 339/Catawissa Creek Rd.  We'll explore a few more country roads before ending back in Drums, at the Milkhouse Creamery, to enjoy their homemade ice cream!

Total drive time is approximately 4 hours plus roughly 1 hour stop for brunch, so roughly 5 hours from start to ice cream.

This event will follow the current Pennsylvania rules for COVID-19 safety. To avoid common handling of materials, we will email the directions to participants, for home printing, and we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet. Since the sign-in confirms your agreement with LVMOC’s standard Waiver and Release, we will now consider your post to this event thread, indicating that you intend to participate, to be your “electronic” signature, indicating your agreement with said Waiver and Release (copy available on request).

Presidential note: This is Run #6

We will use FRS radios for communications.  Be sure to arrive by 9:00 a.m. with a full gas tank and an empty bladder.

Turn by turn instructions and a GPX file will be made available to anyone who attends

I was in Virginia last night for a wedding,  drove back this morning with the top down and the SPF30 I used was not up to the task.

I’ve been milling around the car from short trip to short trip for hours. I even found a pretty good arm rest pad from Autozone for $10 for the ND. Post pics in another thread then

Sadly I will miss this as I have a family commitment on the 1st.  I highly recommend that anyone sitting on the fence, jump in with both feet!  It is well worth the drive to Sugarloaf to follow Brian on his tour of the area!

I am hoping that Brian may offer this drive again in the Fall.  *hint hint*  🙂

Brian, unfortunately I am not able to join you on your pre-run Drive on Friday, the 29th.

Looking forward to your offering this Drive again in the Fall.

@rhetlaw if responses continue to be positive I'll definitely consider doing more drives during the summer,  although I'll be a little busier after we start running trains again at Steamtown.

Where’s info on that? I didn’t see it. Was it in an email?

@stormnd2club well it's a little less official but basically we'll take a small group on Friday to make sure all the roads are open and in passable condition since the winter.  If you want to join up the particulars (place and time)  are the same,  9am at Sheetz on Friday.

Gotcha. I am not sure if I can make that bc I work later Friday and opposite direction. Should be good Sunday as long as weather holds up.

A note about the Cherokee Tap Room & Grille:  we are confirmed for a private room,  the trade off is we will have one check, so PLEASE come prepared not just with cash,  but ideally with small bills so you can pay your exact amount plus tip without needing change.  I'm a ride leader,  not a bank and I won't be able to make change for you!  They serve a brunch menu only on Sunday so be in a brunch mood!   Looking forward to it,  and it's still not too late to join the pre-run tomorrow if Sunday isn't good for you; currently it's just Alison and I.

Brian,

Please put me down as well… driven through the area many times but haven’t explored.  Looks like it’ll be a nice day to see some new roads
