Library of past drives?

Is there a library of sorts for approved drives?  Maybe in PDF format of turn by turn and the GPS upload.  Might make it easier for someone to lead a drive if they could pick out a pre-approved route, do a pre-run to confirm it is still valid and not have to do all the route planning and submission for approval part.  Just a thought.

We discussed this at the recent Club Officers' meeting, Mike.  No such library currently exists.  We're open for suggestions for setting something up.  We could possibly open a Drop Box account for LVMOC use, but we'd have to see what the cost would be and how to let LVMOC members gain access to it.

I have many .pdf files with route instructions and quite a few .GPX files for GPS upload.  Walter, of course, has many, also.  Once we establish a repository for this information, we would have to scan all the hard-copy directions.  That would take a while.

Anyone have thoughts or recommendations on this?

Could they not be loaded here in a new category as attached files with drive name as the file name?

At this time, there are at least 200 files, including many .GPX files.  When attaching files to a post, there's no way to organize them, i.e., by geographic region, etc.  They would listed in the order by which they were added.  I think this would be too unwieldy.

Would it be easier to post each drive as they occur?  At least a library of drives, directions, etc. would be started and would grow as time passes.

That's a possibility, Doug.  Or, maybe include a link to the directions file(s) within every drive topic's top post in the forum.  Then, we'd at least have files available, inside the event postings, by date of the event.  They'd be in the "Previous LVMOC Events" forum category.

I should be able to spend more time on this in a few weeks.

Hi folks,

did the library of drives, or step by step or maps ever go into Past Events.  took a look around but did not see it.  i'm still working so don't get to take part in the typical events and wanted to take my wife on a drive and stop somewhere for dinner.

Any suggestions for a route and endpoint?

We're still trying to find a reasonable way to add or link a library of drives to the website forum, Jeff.  The website, itself, doesn't have a repository for such files, and links to external databases have security and cost issues.  I keep digging around, when I have time, and I've tried to get help from our website host, with no luck.

In the meantime . . . another option . . .

I provide the PDF file of turn-by-turn directions and the GPX file to everyone who has signed up for my Drive. I have also provided it to others who have contacted me and requested them.

If a person has a Garmin unit and has downloaded Garmin Express and Garmin Base Camp, both free by the way, they could develop their own library of my Drives. I know there are others in the Club that also provide their GPX file and turn-by-turn directions.

At the end of a driving season, that would be a nice library of our Club Drives.

Individual 2GB Drop Box accounts are free. We may be able to set up an informal network of these and share the files.
