I thought the LVMOC FB page was public?

I used to be able to expand and read comments, but that is no longer available unless you create a login now?

It is public if you're already logged in to FB.

Hi Iva,

I don't have an FB login. Probably never will. Since very little conversation happens here since the FB page was put up, I would troll around and see what club members were talking about. I used to be able to click on replies and they would expand for reading. Now when I click on someone's reply to another's post, I get a pop out screen demanding I log in with the reply just out of view at the bottom of the window.

That's not really public anymore.

Like you, Fred, I was getting the login box, also.  That started a couple of weeks ago... before that, I could freely view posts and replies.  Since I have no Facebook account, I've never been able to post anything, which is OK with me.

But, as of today, there's now an "X" in the upper right corner of the login box, which I can click to get rid of the box, without logging into Facebook, and I can then view most full posts and partial replies.  However, there's still a "Login or Create New Account" bar at the bottom of the page that blocks some of the drop down replies (I get around this by reducing the page size to 67%).

I agree with you, that the linked Facebook page has historically been read-only, or "Public", for those of us who don't have a Facebook account.  As of now, that feature seems to have been at least partially restored.

@flying-dutchman I have experienced the same Dave.  I have never had a FB account and never plan to so logging in is not an option.

Yesterday, I was getting the log in window for the few FB pages I normally visit on my laptop but there was no 'x' to close it.  However. I was able to view them on my phone?  Today, the log in window was there with the 'x' to close it on my laptop and some days there is no log in window?  I think it is Zburg messing with the masses.  Haha. In all three instances, I was using Chrome.

@fredm If it happens again, try another device to see if you will have access.

I just joined the forum. I am curious why there is a Facebook page. Seems like this site would be able to handle discussion, right? But, like FredM, I won't use Facebook either, so I guess I will just keep in touch for upcoming drives here and chat on the Miata Forum. Glad to be here, none the less.

Facebook allows easier access on a platform most folks have and use daily.  You can post pics and videos that you can't do on here.  Also it is a way to get the club exposure on a popular platform and possibly generate new members.   This is a very dated format (especially for anyone under 30).  It is good for maintaining a restricted site that many of our "experienced" members are comfortable with.  I use both.

Hi @redundant, happy to see that you joined.

In addition to what @whybu1 said, the forum is also where you "officially" sign up for Club drives.  These drives are sometimes listed on the Facebook page to get more exposure.  The Facebook page also allows members to coordinate their own drives (not Club sanctioned) with other members to enjoy a mid-week drive on a beautiful driving day.

I lurk the FB page to see pics and videos that members post.

That all makes sense. I don't know much about Facebook, so there's that. Thanks for the explanation.
