Event Leader -  Walter Cramer

Join Walter for another new Drive, which will begin at the Upper Macungie Park, along Route 100, just north of Fogelsville.  We will be driving familiar Miata roads in Lehigh and Carbon Counties that our Club has enjoyed for decades.  Once we traverse Blue Mountain via Route 309 we will be driving Miata roads that are not as familiar to our Club.  Hopefully I will be introducing you to Miata roads you have never driven.  Our rest stop will be at the Walmart Super Center on Route 443 in Lehighton.  Following the rest stop, we continue to drive our beloved Miata roads South of Route 443 and North of Route 895 and eventually cross the Lehigh River via Route 209.  We continue to drive South of Route 209 and arrive at the Blue Mountain Lodge for a picnic lunch and an additional rest stop.

After lunch, we continue South over Blue Mountain and enjoy an Ice Cream dessert at the Blue Mountain Drive-In.

The Drive is approximately 97 miles in length and each leg of travel is approximately two hours.

This event will follow the current Pennsylvania rules for COVID-19 safety.  To avoid common handling of materials, we will email the directions to participants, for home printing, and we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet.  Since the sign-in confirms your agreement with LVMOC’s standard Waiver and Release, we will now consider your post to this event thread, indicating that you intend to participate, to be your “electronic” signature, indicating your agreement with said Waiver and Release (copy available on request).

We will use FRS radios for communications.  Be sure to arrive by 9:00 a.m. with a full gas tank and an empty bladder 😏.

Doug and Randi will be joining the ride - our first LVMOC event!

Please explain the picnic lunch.  I presume we bring our own lunches?

Doug, good having you and Randi joining us on Saturday. Typically our morning gathering is at a point that offers fuel and bathrooms. Although the Park does not offer fuel, it does offer bathrooms. However, there is gas across the street very near by.

After an approximately two hour drive, we have a rest stop at a Walmart in Lehighton. Following another two hour drive we have a picnic lunch at the Blue Mountain Lodge that offers a grand view of the valley below. Yes, you do provide your own picnic lunches. There are picnic tables at Blue Mountain although some of us choose to bring camping chairs. Depending upon sunshine, you may want to throw in some sunscreen.

We end the drive on the other side of Blue Mountain at the Blue Mountain Drive-In for Ice Cream, approximately five minutes away.

Looking forward to meeting you and Randi on Saturday.

Walter

Walter.  Approx what time do you think you’ll be at the lunch stop?  I have a birthday party to attend Sat and trying to see if I can fit in the drive if I head out at the lunch. Thanks

@miata-mike

Mike, we will arrive at our lunch stop between 1:30 - 2:00.  Our rest stop at Walmart is in Lehighton. We will arrive there at approximately 11:30. From Lehighton, you can pick up route 248 and head back to  the Lehigh Valley.

So you are able to enjoy the best of both worlds - driving your Miata on some awesome roads in the morning and celebrate a birthday in the afternoon.

Walter. That is some solid logic there!  I’m in for Sat and will head out at Lehighton. See you Sat.
