Join the gang for our annual top-down celebration of the new year (according to Iva, this event was first done in January, 2005, so this is the 19th running of the Polar Bear Drive)! This will be a clean-roads-only event. We will meet in the Weis Market parking lot, near their Gas & Go facility, off PA Route 100 in Fogelsville, PA. The route will take us along fun roads in Berks, Schuylkill and Lehigh Counties. There will be a "comfort break" at about 1 hour into the drive and a second one after about another hour. The total drive will take about 3 to 3 1/2 hours.
We will end the drive at the Hometown Breakfast Bar & Grille (a.k.a. Hometown Diner), in Breinigsville. Obviously, there will be no outdoor seating for lunch. Also, a severe outbreak of COVID later this month could affect our decision.
Be sure to let us know if you will be staying for lunch!
To avoid common handling of materials, we will email the directions to participants, for home printing, and we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet. Since the sign-in confirms your agreement with LVMOC’s standard Waiver and Release, we will consider your post to this event thread, stating that you intend to participate, to be your “electronic” signature, indicating your agreement with said Waiver and Release (copy available on request).
We are limiting the number of cars on this drive to either 15 (one group of cars) or 30 (two groups), depending on the participant response. We want to ensure a safe, enjoyable drive with minimal waits for regrouping, and we are giving participation priority to paid LVMOC members. We will use FRS radios for communication. Be sure to arrive at the departure point with a full gas tank and an empty bladder!

I’ll be there assuming no salt and crap everywhere. But I have to work that day at 2pm in NJ so I may have to cut it short.

Add Fred and Marie as long as it's not raining or snowing. Last one Marie and I did, it was 16 degrees outside and it was fun!
Probably no for lunch, though.
I am polling the other Miata owners in the family to see if they would like to join, too.
2008 Copper Red
Can't miss this - sign me up for food afterwards too please.
Please add me. Weather permitting. If not with the Miata, I’ll be there with the truck to take pictures. Merry Christmas everyone. John

Good thing this system is coming in THIS weekend - and not next.
In my decades of studying meteorology, especially winter weather and it’s complexities in this part of the country, I have *NEVER* seen anything like this:
^^ No that’s NOT a misprint. The forecast is for a high of 54 - mild- case then dropping to *8 degrees* in the same 24 hour period. That’s a 46 degree sway, followed by absolute BRUTAL cold- this would be cause for alarm in February in Maine, let alone late December in Eastern PA
I have never seen that here before. That’s extreme even for a city famous for its extreme weather changes: Denver, CO.
LUCKILY, for New Years Day it appears temperatures will be relatively mild (considering what’s coming) and it *appears* it will be overcast (although can’t rule out a scattered shower yet - it’s just a bit too far out yet). Early models putting Lehigh valley temps in the mid 40s.
I’ll have a better handle on the New Years Day forecast early next week as the models confer.

Oh not that it effects us but today Denver is expected to drop to it lowest temperature….. since 1990.
It’s the same air mass tho, yet it will be “modified” (meteorological term for some type of change) and warming up as it makes its way toward us. Thank God

Now it looks like may even hit 60+ degrees on Jan1st.. but again too early to tell, also a (at this time) 50/50 shot of some scattered showers.
Should have a pretty good handle on it this Thursday nights 11PM model run

Our reward for surviving this weekend's deep freeze?

Could be! My only concern is the change of some showers in and around the area. Will see and will know more in a few more days
