For anyone interested. Young/Koch Mazda just called. Good & bad news. They will have the car at least a week but are completely replacing the soft top under warranty due to the holes forming. I asked the tech what he thinks is causing it and he didn’t have an answer other than some sort of factory defect.

So - over two years of sun bleaching, snow/ice & general wear and tear gets reversed and it will look dark black again like it did brand new.

Infotainment screen being replaced as I expected.

Fuel filler door spring is being replaced again.  

Now the bad news - they don't want to paint the rest of the car because they said it's "not a paint adhesion problem" like I had on the hood and entire front. No idea. I didn’t argue - just mentioned how others have had their entire NDs repainted for less chips.  

Once I get it back I will take up to Ray Price and get another opinion. If they say no too, then I’ll call corporate and try another dealer, if that’s what it takes. The rocker panels and rear bumper are quite chipped up. Don’t understand why that is if it’s “not a paint adhesion problem.”

I think the total respray was due to the paint shop telling Mazda they would not do the job unless they did the entire car. Since they had the lowest estimate, they got to do it. They told me Mazda tried to get them to do only part of the car, but they refused.    

Interesting. I have a softop of course and the whole front end was already repainted. Maybe that will work in my favor. Less work. 

Regardless, this is the SIXTH time the car has been at Mazda for various issues. The motor and transmission are amazing, but I think my NC2 was put together better. 

Funny running into Walt today at the dealer - anytime I drop off (that car or ones like it in the past) I make random trips there to check up on it and check the mileage that no one is joyriding it, lol. 

Anyways the Mazda tech called me and said it may be done Friday but possibly Monday. Brand new soft top / infotainment screen / fuel filler door - but I don’t know if I’ll have it back in time for this run.
