Congrats! Mines been at Mazda since 6/21. No idea how long it will take.

Got the OK from Mazda to have my '21 Crystal Soul Red repainted due to the multitude of rock chips.  Goes into the shop on the 1st of August.   

Also did they say they are repainting the whole vehicle or just the front ?

They are painting the front, top, left door, trunk, front and rear bumper.  Those for sure.  Basically, any place they found a chip in the paint.  I know they told me it would be a least 2 weeks.  From what I read it takes about 80 hours to do it.  

Happy to hear that Mazda is doing right by you Mike, like they are for Jordan.

I wonder, just how many other SRC color vehicles Mazda has re-painted in good faith?  I have to imagine that it isn't limited to just the MX-5.

The shop doing mine said this is the first Miata but they have done 5 Mazda suvs off this color. Judging from the number of pats on various forums it is a well known issue. The service manager said that just recently Mazda has been much more open to fixing the issue.

At least Mazda is now more open to fixing this issue.  Especially considering this color is an upcharge.

Ray Price is the Dealership but it is going out to a local body shop.  I forget which one.

I’m going to contact Young. They skipped two panels where there are clearly issues. 

That sucks.  Hopefully they take care of it.  I am going to ask when I drop mine off what happens if they find additional chips.  

Car goes back August 2nd:

For infotainment screen replacement and possibly a new softop. 

also they are going to look again at some of areas they missed. Mainly the rear bumper just where the paint portion begins, and the passenger side area of the door edge and the rockers, and the trunk. The trunk isn’t looking so hot. Honestly the entire car should be repainted from the front fenders back. Including the side mirrors that are black.

the front though - they definitely painted this with more care than the robots do at the factory in Japan. It looks great and is clearly thicker and more resistant to chips. Before the hood would chip if you looked at it wrong. Since this was hand painted it’s much better quality. 

I have to say, I am not real happy with all the problems I’ve had in less than 2 years of having this vehicle.  Mechanically - the engine and transmission are great but needing a new infotainment screen already? A new top? Sure looks like it. Also if they do give me a new top I’m going to ask to upgrade to the GT soft top - if you didn’t know the GT has an extra layer of protective material on its underside than the Club or Sport does. I was also considering another color. Wonder if red would be too much red. Or dark gray? I’ll offer to pay the difference if it’s reasonable. 

Just visited the body shop that will do the repaint.  Their estimate is 100 hours of labor and about 30 days.  No Miata until September.  🙁

Wow. So they’re doing the entire thing ?

Can we see before pictures ? I just want to see the extent of yours if it’s that much worse than mine - and if it’s not, or equal, I’d go deal with them instead bc now I have a beautiful front but chewed up rear and rockers and other spots -
