Event Leader - Walter Cramer
Join Walter for another 100 mile Drive ending with a picnic lunch and ice cream. The Drive will enjoy many of our beloved Miata roads through Northampton County, picking up Route 611 for our last five miles of travel while driving through the picturesque Delaware Water Gap and stopping at the Delaware Water Gap Welcome Center for our rest stop. Our return route has us driving roadways through Monroe County and arriving atop Blue Mountain for our picnic lunch, followed by ICE CREAM for dessert at the Blue Mountain Drive-In.
NOTE - Due to forecasted rain showers, this will no longer be a Picnic Drive. Instead, we will proceed to the Blue Mountain Drive-In and dine indoors (or, if you wish, outdoors on their deck). Please let Walter know if you will be staying for lunch... you can text him at 610-509-7120.
This event will follow the current Pennsylvania rules for COVID-19 safety. To avoid common handling of materials, we will email the directions to participants, for home printing, and we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet. If you don't mind me taking it slow (maybe put me in the back so everyone else can go faster), then I can go. I got into an accident recently and windy backroads still scare me. Definitely won't be able to catch up. Don't want to hold anyone else back
@jacqueline Strange as it sounds, you should then be at the front as that keeps the group together better; and if any separation happens, the faster cars are in the back and can catch up.
There's a thread on here somewhere about that called "How Should We Line Up" (or something like that), and while there wasn't total agreement, there were several reasons for slower cars toward the front, and zero reasons for them toward the back.
@triviawayne see this is why I love this group. Ironically I got into an accident while I was on another drive but with Philly Miata club instead. I was like the 4th or 5th in the front (in like 30 cars? So I was definitely in the front haha) and I thought they were going like 50 in a 25 but according to Joe apparently much faster, so I felt bad about holding back the people behind me, and then while going down the hill, I didn't break hard enough and make a left turn too wide and got my front right wheel on the grass/gravel and slid into a tree on the side (luckily it was just me, didn't hit anyone). After that the people in charge were like "Sorry I should have put you in the back" and also "Let's split the group into two! One for people who want to go fast and one for people who want to go slow!".
Of course, it is still my fault, I felt the peer pressure to go fast and gave in instead of knowing the limit of my ability, this is 100% my fault and I'm not denying that. But I also want to stress that I really, really appreciate hearing you saying that I should still be in the front to keep the group together better make me happy because this shows the philosophy of the group is about the community and having fun *together* instead of just testing the limit of the car.
In that case, I would love to come tomorrow, as long as y'all don't mind me like staying at the speed limit and possibly -5 of that limit on scarier roads lol. Excited to be part of the group for years to come!
