Join Walter for an all day, tri-state drive to Hawks Nest, Port Jervis, NY. The ride begins in Pennsylvania, travels North through New Jersey, crosses into New York State followed by a return trip over the Delaware River and back home into Pennsylvania.
On Sunday, October 10th we will be meeting at the Shell Station, 428 Nor Bath Boulevard, Northampton (old Kopper Penny) at 8:45 with at Driver’s meeting at 9:15 and Depart at 9:30.
Our first leg of travel is approximately an hour and forty minutes, and 57 miles, to the Acme Store in Blairstown, NJ for our rest stop.
Our second leg of travel is approximately an hour and thirty minutes, and 40 miles, to the Erie Hotel in Port Jervis for lunch (Note that the Erie Hotel offers only INDOOR dining).
After lunch (approximately 2:30) we will travel to the summit of Point Peter to the Elks-Brox Memorial Park to enjoy splendid views of Port Jervis, the Delaware River and the surrounding countryside. The road to the summit is Skyline Drive. It is a mini-hillclimb and contains two hairpin curves - one left and one right.
Our final leg of travel has us driving route 97 through the community of Hawks Nest and ultimately the curvy section of that road known as Hawks Nest drive. We continue North for twelve miles to enjoy magnificent views of the Delaware River, cross into Pennsylvania and navigate back home via a blend of Miata roads and Touring roads.
Don’t expect to return to the valley until 5:30 p.m. or so. However, if time is an issue for you, you can do a return run on Hawks Nest and pick up route 209 /route 6 at Port Jervis and head directly home.

Someone needs to kick me hard to do these brakes, brand new beautiful brembo calipers, stainless steel lines, pads, rotors, sitting on my floor.
I think it’s the brake bleeding that keeps me from doing it. Real pain if you don’t have someone to help. Maybe I’ll order those special bleeder screws that push out fluid but don’t allow air in. I dunno.

I just installed a new set of Centric premium rotirs and ceramic pads on my car. We can swap those over to yours and install the Brembos on mine. Then you don't have to worry about bleeding those brakes. Lol

LOL 🙂 What brand pads did you get?? Do you like them?? I actually ordered speed bleeders for when I do the Brem swap, hope they work well. each Brem has two and the rears just the 1 each.
Also, I have a set of used Brembo pads and rotors (6k mile on them) which came on the car, in other words they’re the OEM Mazda ones- I was given them by a friend who didn’t need them anymore.
I’m debating that since I’m doing it anyway if I should pony up and get some Hawk HPS pads or something instead of just installing stock ones- ..but on the other hand, these pads are already bedded with their comparable rotors. The rotors are the same size for Brembo and non Brembo equipped NDs, but the Brembos are slightly different, possibly a bit lighter and higher quality. I won’t know for sure until I can compare the two..

They really do. Science even says so and can prove it! 🙂 Studies have shown pets can lead to a longer healthier life. They lower blood pressure in some. Back in the horrid March-May 2020 time period when it was basically shelter in place, all I had was my pups. And it wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been if I was totally alone. I am alone a lot - but everything being closed and no work or anywhere to go was totally different and crazy.

As you know, tomorrow's weather forecast is iffy at best. This same situation occurred on one of my Drives earlier in the season. As a result, I cancelled my Drive. The next morning we awoke to sunshine. I lamented the entire day.
So-o-o, I am not going to cancel the Drive at this time. I will be at the WAWA at the scheduled time. Those who choose to show up, we can have a discussion of what to do at that time.
Those that are signed up for this Drive, please check you email. I have sent a message.
I will be there. Hearing some scattered showers and even if it is raining here, it could be blue skies where we are traveling. 🙂

I should have mentioned this earlier.... there is an unused parking lot near the Wawa. It is next to the pond and water fountain at the end of the Mini Strio Mall next to the Wawa. If we gather there, we are in no one's way, and can walk to the Wawa for food or services. I will park there.

Great Run today Walter! We both had a great time on an amazing string of curvy roads!

Walter, Michele and I had a great time on your drive today. Thanks. I hope your car's clutch just needs to be adjusted rather than replaced!

Thanks Walter for putting together another great run!
Thank you, Louie, Dave and Michele. This Drive certainly provided some interesting curve balls. The first was the weather and eight of you said, " Let's do it rain or shine ".
Secondly, no more than twelve miles into the Drive my clutch began slipping. Rather than cancel the Drive, I found a Church parking lot to park my BRG. Alison invited me to join her as the Navigator in her Miata and she became the Lead and the Drive continued. Thanks to everyone for your flexibility.
Weather never became a severe issue. Just enough that driving was cautious and windshield wipers had to sweep away that mist.
Thank you to Dave and Michele as our Tail, always nice to hear your voice on the FRS Michele and to Jeff for agreeing to being the new lead and getting us home safely.
Looking forward to our next Drive.
Thank you again Walter for agreeing to lead us on this adventure in the foul weather and in three different cars no less. That has to be a club first. Despite the overcast morning and misty afternoon, I enjoyed myself and the roads that you strung together.
I also hope that my pace on the back end of the run was good for everyone. At times I was second guessing myself, "am I going too fast, am I going too slow?". It was a little nerve wracking and I have a new found respect for anyone who has put together and led a run.

@ctt3mx5 Jeff, considering the wet roads, I'd say your pace was perfect.
