Event Leader -  Walter Cramer

Join Walter for an all day, tri state drive to Hawks Nest, Port Jervis.  The ride begins in Pennsylvania, travels North through New Jersey, crosses into New York State followed by a return trip over the Delaware River and back home.  We drive through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area in both Pennsylvanian and New Jersey and enjoy many scenic sights.

Our first leg of travel is 57 miles and approximately an hour and forty minutes, to the Acme Store in Blairstown, NJ for our rest stop.

Our second leg of travel is 40 miles and approximately an hour and thirty minutes, to the Erie Hotel - an original “railroad hotel” along the Erie Lackawanna Railroad line - in Port Jervis for a 1:00 lunch.  https://theeriehotel.com/hotel .

After lunch (approximately 2:30) we will drive to the summit of Point Peter to the Elks-Brox Memorial Park to enjoy splendid views Port Jervis, the Delaware River and the surrounding countryside.  The road to the summit is Skyline Drive.  It is a mini-hillclimb and contains two hairpin curves - one left and one right.

Our final leg of travel has us driving route 97 through the community of Hawks Nest and ultimately the curvy section of that road known as Hawks Nest drive.  We continue North for twelve miles to enjoy magnificent views of the Delaware River, cross into Pennsylvania and navigate back home via a blend of Miata roads and Touring roads.

Don’t expect to return to the valley until 5:30 p.m. or so.  However, if time is an issue for you, you can depart from the Hawks Nest area and pick up route 209 /route 6 at Port Jervis and head directly home.

This event will follow the current Pennsylvania rules for COVID-19 safety.  To avoid common handling of materials, we will email the directions to participants, for home printing, and we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet.  Since the sign-in confirms your agreement with LVMOC’s standard Waiver and Release, we will now consider your post to this event thread, indicating that you intend to participate, to be your “electronic” signature, indicating your agreement with said Waiver and Release (copy available on request).

We will use FRS radios for communications.

Thanks to everyone who joined on today's Drive. Happy that it was such a good time of driving over 210 miles of Miata roads. And to think we were able to arrive back home without running into any thunder showers. A HUGE thank you to Dawn and Tom Horvath for being our Tail Team today. Great job on the FRS Dawn - another natural. Also, it was very nice to meet Ron's co-worker, Chris today. Always a joy to have someone new join us.
