UPDATE: Jerry's has closed to the public a week ago. He is going to reopen JUST FOR US TOMORROW! He is charging me $160 to open tomorrow for 2 1/2 hours for the Club to have free reign. His admission is normally $10 each, so if we have 16 people interested, we are good. If we fall short of that, I will just eat it as a gift to the Club. (If you bought a Groupon, like I had, exchange it, as he will not take it tomorrow).

It is here!  The new run you have been waiting for!

What is Jerry's? Here is information from their website:

Create new memories while we share the old

jj

We are now OPEN WEEKENDS! Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We will be following CDC rules and masks will be required to enter. So don’t miss this trip back in time.

Do you want to relive the days of the past? The days when cars were classically designed, rock-n-roll ruled everyone’s radio and the nights were about watching movies at the drive-in theater or sipping a milkshake at a local soda shop. At Jerry’s Classic Cars & Collectibles museum, you will take a journey back in time to the 1950s and leave with an unforgettable experience.

We’ve paid attention to detail and have created an authentic atmosphere, displaying classic cars and over 20,000 collectible items to stir fond memories. Take a sneak peek of the museum and learn about the history of the building as you plan your visit. All ages are welcome!

What’s Inside:

  • Car Showroom
  • Barbershop
  • Millinery
  • Soda Shop
  • Kitchen
  • Drive-In Theater
  • Band Stand
  • Library
  • Auto Parts Store

Meet: Giant Food Store, 300 S. Best Ave., Walnutport  LOCATION.  There is a gas station there and bathrooms.

When: Sunday November 8 at 9:00

Driver meeting at 9:25, Rollout at 9:30

We will be leaving Giant and heading into Slatington.  From there we head through the Trexler Game Preserve and head to Pottsville.  Jerry's is opening just for us when we get there!

This event will follow the current Pennsylvania rules for COVID-19 safety.  We will require that all participants maintain six-foot social distancing, and we will require masks to be worn when not in our cars.  To avoid common handling of materials, we will email the directions to participants, for home printing, and we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet.  Since the sign-in confirms your agreement with LVMOC’s standard Waiver and Release, we will now consider your post to this event thread, indicating that you intend to participate, to be your “electronic” signature, indicating your agreement with said Waiver and Release (copy available on request).

This drive no longer be limited to 15 cars as I would love for as many Club members to take advantage of this opportunity!

We will use FRS radios for communications.  Be sure to arrive by 9:00 a.m. There are bathrooms in the Giant, as well as a McDonald's and Burger King across the street for breakfast!

Great drive, Louie 👍!  I appreciate all the work that goes into planning a drive route.  And, of course, having things like road and destination closures torpedo the plan at the last minute.  But, hey, great recovery!  Thanks!

Thanks Dave. It really was a team effort though. I need to thank you, for sending me two previous drives of the area, and Walter for suggesting that I blend my Slatington roads into this drive. Then Walter was gracious and did a pre-run for me and a bunch of leg work to pull it together due to me working overtime all week.

Linda, Evan and I had a great time today.  Thanks for putting the drive together and letting us join in the Mazda3.  I will not bring it on a regular basis, but it's nice to bring Linda along.  Before Evan arrived, she loved going on Miata drives with me.  It was nice to have her along today.

It was nice to see her today. It is exceedingly difficult to fit 3 humans in a Miata.

@ken-hill

It was great to see Linda again, I had the pleasure of meeting her once before.  At least you opted for the moonroof on the Mazda3 to give you that top down "effect" while driving.  😆

@dotachin12

Nobu, so sorry that I forgot to thank you again!  The batteries in my digital tire gauge are dead and you saved the day by letting me use yours.

@livetodrive

And thank you again for the explanation of the TPMS on the 2016.  The light has not come back on so I think it's safe to rule out a puncture of any kind.  But can't rule out some rub marks, they are 205/50/17 and on the tight turns, I could hear the fronts rubbing the wheel liners.

You're welcome, Louie.

It was nice to have three Miatas from New Jersey, one from Brooklyn, NY and two from the Reading area - the Ken Hill family and Evan and Forrest Miller. Good to see young blood.

In my experience, putting the smallest person in the trunk works best.

Hey Walter not sure if you got my text - despite yesterday being the best weather ever in our area for November, we overdid it Saturday night and paid the price Sunday. ugh. Looks like a great time was had tho and some awesome photos.

I learned two things: an iPhone alarm isn’t always sufficient to wake me up and Tequila is NOT my friend. 🙂 🙂

205/50 is tall. I didn't even know that was a size. Mine came with 205/45 from the factory. I suspect that you have tires purchased by the previous owner who wanted a softer ride that a higher sidewall offers. My tires have never rubbed the fender liners, or anything else, which is odd considering my car is lowered 2" and my tires are 235s. Next time you take your car to the dealership,  ask them about the rubbing. Maybe a plastic push pin is missing, causing your fender liner to be out of place.

Tequila is nobody's friend. You get crazy on it while drinking, and feel like crap the next day. That is why I drank bourbon for years. Shop from the top shelf and suffer no hangovers. However, hangovers are your body's defense mechanism against stupidity, and removing that may be even worse.

I stopped drinking in 2014 when it was clear that I was no longer a rookie. Now I wake up before my alarm to see how long I have until it goes off. Then I calculate if I have enough time to wash my car before work...

I substituted one behavior for another, and the car gods love me now. 😊

It is a shame you missed the drive. It was a lot of fun. However, if the weather permits, I will offer a condensed version of it soon.

Yes, I was looking for you yesterday morning and hoping to meet Nicole. Yeah, sometimes we do things we later regret.

As you know, you missed a goodie yesterday but more to come and I mean before next year's driving season.
