Join Walter for another new Drive. This Drive will be about 130 miles in length, with approximately 100 of those miles on our beloved Miata roads. The additional 30 miles is four lane travel back to our ice cream destination in the Lehigh Valley. We will have a rest stop at the Delaware Water Gap Welcome Center and picnic lunch at the Big Pocono State Park which at the top of the mountain above Camelback Ski Area and Water Park. For those interested, we will be ending the drive with Ice Cream at the Klein Farms Dairy & Creamery, north of Easton. With driving, rest stop, lunch and ice cream, this could end up being a 5 1/2 - 6 hour day. Of course, you can drive to your hearts content and pull off when you’ve had enough.
The views from Big Pocono State Park are exhilarating. Looking South we see the Delaware Water Gap to our left, Wind Gap area in the center, and the Lehigh Gap to our right. Looking North you will enjoy more great views of the Pocono Region.
We will be gathering at the Shell Station, 428 Nor Bath Boulevard, Northampton. The Shell Station is at the intersection of route 329 and Howertown Road. We will gather at 9:00 - ish with a Driver’s meeting at 9:15 and a departure time of 9:30.
This event will follow the current Pennsylvania rules for COVID-19 safety. To avoid common handling of materials, we will email the directions to participants, for home printing, and we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet. Since the sign-in confirms your agreement with LVMOC’s standard Waiver and Release, we will now consider your post to this event thread, indicating that you intend to participate, to be your “electronic” signature, indicating your agreement with said Waiver and Release (copy available on request).
We will use FRS radios for communications. Be sure to arrive by 9:00 a.m. with a full gas tank and an empty bladder .

@stormnd2club well what was it like driving without the soundtube?
@wowak So sorry to hear about that! Good luck getting it sorted out!

Thank you to Walter for a great run today! The roads were fantastic, the weather was beautiful and mixed with a group of great people, it was the perfect trifecta....oh yeah and ICE CREAM! 🙂 Also thank you to everyone for keeping the chatter live over the FRS radios. It was a huge help to Haley and I in the back. And one more round of thanks to Warren and Celia and the small group that was kind enough to wait up for us due to that extremely slow alien.
It was also great to see that Justin just blindly pulled into line with us. Good thing he had a full tank from the start! 🙂 lol

Another amazing drive, I really needed that today; especially the long road without stopping and a silent radio.
great job by the group for staying together; I think this group of 20+ cars ran tighter than some of the smaller groups I’ve been in—a tight pack is much more fun.
Any update on Ken and Evan? I did not see them prior to leaving Kline's.

Thanks Walter for a great drive and thanks to all the members today for making Dawn and I feel welcome. We had a wonderful time and look forward to future events.

Thank you for the compliments of the Drive and Miata roads we drove today. But I have to tell you, I give a huge round of applause to all of the drivers, navigators and radio operators. I was so pleased to hear so much communication on the FRS. You have no idea how that took pressure off of me. It helped me so much in slowing down and holding back versus maintaining a 45 mph.
Having never led 24 Miatas before, I was so happy that Corrina and Louie, Celia and Warren, Ken, and Jeff and Haley filled their positions of #8, #12, #16 and of the Tail. Haley continues to be a trooper on that FRS. A HUGE thank you to all. We certainly held together and looked out for each other today.
What a joy having a young Miata driver by the name of Justin having the courage to jump into our string of Miatas. I had no idea he was with us until we arrived at the Welcome Center. I am sure he felt welcome by our group.
Looking forward to our next venture together.

Received a message from Ken that all is well and they were heading home.
Thanks Walter for a great drive and thanks to all the members today for making Dawn and I feel welcome. We had a wonderful time and look forward to future events.
Tom, so happy you and Dawn were able to join us today and that you were able to enjoy yourselves. Looking forward to future drives with you.
Let’s not forget a welcome to our resident alien Justin? Is it Justin?
he was driving his Miata and saw the group and joined the drive when he saw us leaving the copper penny.
he later discovered our big secret that we are not a car club, we are an ice cream club with one requirement to join: own a Miata.
Walter, congratulations on keeping such a large group together today 👍! Assigning "spotter" cars spaced throughout the group was a key element, I think... they all did a great job! With a group this large, I could see that this really helped keep you informed of everyone's whereabouts. And the radio feedback from many others was exceptional on this drive!
As always, your choices of twisty road were outstanding 🤑.

What a great ride today. We had lots of new members and guests, including Justin seeing us and getting inspired to do what Miatas do...take the long way!
Walter strung 130 miles of Miata roads together, no small task. He led us in a large group that I would never have attempted. I am not that skilled.
Once again, the multiple GPS units proved helpful when the group broke up, which is inevitable with 2 dozen cars. Thanks Walter for evangelizing the Gospel according to Garmin.
The whole day proved why Miatas are so special. Good people buy Miatas. Miatas multiply the fun when unleashed on twisty roads with other Miatas. And the members of our Club are fun to be around! Our Club is nothing without all of you, so thanks for being the life blood of our Club!

So much better with the sound tube gone. Normally after a long afternoon of driving I get headache- no headache this time, I could hear other drivers better and my own tires too. Just it improved everything in my opinion. It didn’t feel like a real noisy car, and with the top closed it was even quieter. Def recommend this for anyone who drives spiritedly - your intake sound isn’t pumped into your face anytime you go over 4500 RPM. 🙂

Lol! Yeah, thats true.
I had a TRIPLE scooped super large waffle cone at the ice cream place at the end. It was 10 bucks, lol. But couldn’t resist. I am starting to associate driving convertibles with ice cream. 😉
Also how absolutely perfect was the weather earlier on in the day especially when we got up into the mountainous areas? Couldn’t have planned it any better - then the 90s came. I used plenty of sunblock but I forgot random spots like my ears and top of my hands, and I can feel the burn 🙂
Very fun today, see everyone at the next one I can go to (working this weekend)
