Dust off your Miatas and bring them out to the annual LVMOC CarBQue! There is plenty of room to display your cars while you enjoy a picnic-style lunch, become re-acquainted with old friends and meet new friends. After the difficult year of 2020, we’re all anxious to cautiously emerge for a bit of fresh air and socializing.
Because the COVID-19 pandemic is still a reality, the Club will not have the traditional grilling of burgers and hot dogs. Instead, we will serve pre-sized assorted “sub” sandwich sections, like we have provided at past Detail Day events. We will also have individual packs of potato chips, etc., and we will have potato salad, etc., served by Club volunteers, to avoid multiple handling of utensils. Please do not bring prepared foods, cookies, desserts, etc., to be shared with others outside of your family group! Although that was always encouraged in past years, we must now avoid it due to the ongoing pandemic. We have an alcoholic beverage permit; you may bring something for your personal consumption.
NOTE: At this event, we will hold a General Membership Meeting. We didn't have one last year, due to the restrictions of the pandemic... the Club's Bylaws state that we must have a General Membership Meeting at least once a year.
We will require that all participants maintain six-foot social distancing outside of your family groups, and we will require masks to be worn when not seated at a table for dining. To avoid common handling of materials, we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet. Since the sign-in ordinarily confirms your agreement with LVMOC’s standard Waiver and Release, we will now consider your post to this event thread, stating that you intend to participate, to be your “electronic” signature, indicating your agreement with said Waiver and Release (copy available on request).
The Club will again host its annual Garage Sale / Swap Meet, where you can display your excess Miata parts and accessories to swap or sell. A few ground rules for this are:
- To participate, you must be a paid 2021 LVMOC member
- All items must be Miata-related
- You will be responsible for watching your stuff
- All sales transaction will be strictly between the seller and the buyer
- All items must be clearly tagged with your name and price, if applicable
- You are responsible for removing all remining items from the Park at the end of the CarBQue
- LVMOC is not responsible for any losses you may incur
We will also hold a seminar for prospective drive leaders. Those of us who have led previous drives have much information to pass along that would be helpful to anyone who is considering planning and leading a drive for fellow LVMOC members.

A rain date isn't possible, David. We reserve the date for the pavilion, and pay the fee, on the first business day in January. It's a "go" regardless of weather.

Gary & Beth will be attending, just sent PayPal.
I already have plans to visit friends in NYC that weekend so I don't be participating.

Understood. My favorite weather person Mr G says long range weather looks good. We should be fine... 😎

A picnic needs a game...
If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll bring a trivia game to be played.
My buzzer system can handle up to 10 players, and the pop culture window will cover 1975-2005.
This is an unofficial event for after the CarBque, which we can do at the park, or take to a local pub if that's what everyone wants to do.

Since we should know this before coming:
CDC guidelines have changed since the original post/plan for the CarBQue. Are we following suit, or sticking with the original plan of masking at all times?
We are in uncharted territory, and I am of the personal opinion/feeling of "when in Rome", because I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable; so I have no problem with staying masked.
Also, I'm fully vaxed, and since I am, I'll ask if any vols are still needed for the distribution of the yummies.
Regarding the CDC guidelines for masking and social distancing, I'm not sure what they are now in our situation. I don't think that masks are mandatory for vaccinated people in an outdoor area (please correct me if I'm wrong). We'll be outdoors, and the pavilion has lots of room for us to spread out, if we wish to do so (its capacity is 200 people, and we'll have about 60). Janice and I are both vaccinated, but we still wear masks in close social gatherings. I doubt that we'll be asking to see vaccination certificates.

Please add us
There is a lot of confusion regarding current guidelines, but I think they're pretty simple.
Here is the easy short version, I'll send a PM with a longer version when I can:
1. People who are fully vaccinated (meaning they received their FINAL shot a minimum of 14 days prior) can go without masks indoors or out, with a few exceptions regarding indoors (think sports arenas, airplanes)
2. People who are not fully vaccinated should continue use of masks at all times, and go get vaccinated
now here is the fun part, and what is causing the confusion:
3. any place is free to continue to require or recommend the wearing of masks.
What this means is we as a group can continue a policy of everyone masking as we were planning; or if we don't want to, we can simply state that we would like those who fall in group #2 above continue to mask. We really can't be asking for cards, but we can either require everyone to mask, or ask that those that should, please continue to mask.
