This drive is a pre-run for a Club event being planned for a future date.

Hawk's Nest is a small section of the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway. It is famous for many things. First and foremost is in the beauty of its vistas. On one side of the highway you have the Catskill Mountains and on the other, well below the road elevation, is the Delaware River.  In addition to its beauty, Hawks Nest is a draw for roadster and motorcycle enthusiasts as the roads are known to be curvy and twisty.

Below is a link to some history and photos of Hawk's Nest. In the third of fourth paragraph you will find the words “Porsche Commercial”. Be sure to click on them to check out the commercial. There is also a link to a GoPro video of a drive along that length of the road. Once viewed, there is no doubt in my mind someone is this Club will attempt to replicate, albeit with a Miata.

The drive to Hawk's Nest will be all back roads and consists of three legs of travel. The first is one hour in length from WAWA to a Dunkin Donuts in Portland, PA. The second leg is approximately two hours in length and the rest area is a Dunkin Donuts in Port Jervis, NY. The final leg to Hawk's Nest is twenty minutes of travel.

The drive home will be more direct and is approximately two and a half hours. Those interested in joining me on this pre-run should plan on bringing snacks, a picnic lunch and camping chairs.

This event will follow the current Pennsylvania rules for COVID-19 safety.  We will require that all participants maintain six-foot social distancing, and we will require masks to be worn when not in our cars.  To avoid common handling of materials, we will email the directions to participants, for home printing, and we will eliminate the usual paper sign-in sheet.  Since the sign-in confirms your agreement with LVMOC’s standard Waiver and Release, we will now consider your post to this event thread, indicating that you intend to participate, to be your “electronic” signature, indicating your agreement with said Waiver and Release (copy available on request).

This drive will be limited to 15 cars, including the leader, with priority given to paid LVMOC members.  If the 15 car limit is not met, we will open the drive to non-members.

We will use FRS radios for communications.  Be sure to arrive at the departure point with a full gas tank and an empty bladder .

Attending:

  1. Walter
  2. Gail & Bill
  3. Alison
  4. Arnold

Well, i found out thar I have to mail in my plea before being able to pay my ticket... so annoying we have to wait to find out how much it was 😒

Otherwise, thanks again for a great day Walter and crew.

Costs change depending on your plea, and possibly payment method.

did you guys also saw bikers at Hawk’s Nest during the pre-run? Me and my wife ran into quite a few in October 2018

Yes, we did, Nobu. There was a group of eight bikers accessing Hawks Nest as we were waiting to get on. As your photo showed, we too had a gorgeous day to drive Hawks Nest.
