Jordan, Sabatini Coachworks in Nazareth has replaced soft tops for a couple of Club members. If you don't want to do the entire top, possibly they could do some repair work.

I should be getting a full hard top tomorrow from someone local, and it’s black just like the car is in most places (needs paint many localities. An OEM mazda one as unfortunately the tan soft top must have been near its shelf life, or couldn’t handle my wild drives in the mountains when it was up (lol) as it developed to significant holes on the sides.

Since my ND2 is a softop, I don’t mind the NA1 being a hard top. Here is what it will look like with the hard top and when it’s painted:

In my experience the NA (and the NB) is much stiffer and more solid with its hardtop firmly attached, and that's the way I preferred to drive my '94 (and my '03).  The difference in driving feel between hard top and soft top is noticeable in the first half mile.

Quality replacement soft tops are not cheap, and I suggest you drive the car with its hard top on and see how you like it.  Maybe you, like many other NA owners, will decide you don't really need a soft top.

Walter will never agree with me on this one. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Michael, I yield to your intimate and extensive knowledge and life experience with Miatas. I truly admire the way you are able to discern a stiffer drive and so forth with the hard-top. I am not sure I would be able to tell the difference.

Although I prefer to drive my BRG top down, I absolutely love the look of the hard-top on the NA's.

Congrats on the new NA. The roll bar probably stiffens the car quite a bit, so the hardtop might not be as noticable. I have done a complete top assembly swap. It's easy to do ( much easier than putting a new top on, which I've done twice) Check Planet Miata.

I almost found a hard top in Maryland but it was green and the guy wanted $1200. There is one around here but the guy wants $1400 and it black but not mint he says. From what I’ve read, $1400+ they should be in mint shape or close to it. One good thing about the hard tops is it automatically increases the value of the vehicle basically by what the hard top costs because a prospective buyer knows they can remove it and sell it if they want. So a $3k Miata with a softop becomes a $4k Miata with a hardtop if for sale, basically. One of the few rare modifications that basically works that way because they work on both the NA & NBs. If it wasn’t for the water pump issue I would have grabbed a hard top by now, but want to see if I can get that job done myself and and save a lot of $ to justify the hardtop.

Hey there @stormnd2club...that’s my old NA. Glad to see she has a good home.

Bought it in 1995 with 19k (I think) on it. Stayed mostly stock (I put a new top on it around 1999) until I sold it to my father-in-law in 2001 when I bought an NB.

The NB was totaled in 2002 and, with 2 babies in the house, I flipped from Miatas to Saabs. In 2005 I sold my Viggen and bought this ‘93 B&T back from my father-in-law. I put the rollbar in it, swapped shocks and put bronze Heliums on it (where did they go?). Replaced the old stereo and swapped seats with ones from a ‘92 wreck. The only mechanical failure it ever had was a bad igniter pack and it had developed the 10 AirBag flash in like 2009.

I sold it to Dave when I REALLY needed back seats. Dropped it off with him the day after I bought a new Abarth 500c.

And now, another full circle, I’m looking at purchasing a ‘90 from another former LVMOCer. I promise you...had I seen Dave’s post about this car before you did, it would be mine. Again.

😝

Oh and I’ll take those vent rings off your hands if you don’t want them anymore...

Let ya know. They are really on there. Might pull off some of the material below if I tried to remove. The car is in indefinite hiatus. Needs a lot of work. Finally got the new water pump and new belts in, but the transmission is having issues. Could be the clutch or the hydraulics but we think it could be something more serious.

@stormnd2club I put them on with silicone sealant so it should be safe. Besides I was mostly kidding.

I just picked up my new to me Miata today, made me think of this one. Did it have a voodoo knob in it when you took it or was it an original knob? I thought I removed it but can’t find it. If it has the voodoo I’ll pay handsomely to have to back...

Yep, I have it. Do you have an OEM knob? I don’t have any others
