My daughter, Amanda, would like to become a card-carrying member of LVMOC. So, she is on the hunt for an NA with automatic.

Second choice, NB with automatic.

Third choice NC... you see where this is going 😆

If you know anyone considering parting with one, ping me, thanks!

ps: Cars that are 3 hours away and unsafe to drive will not be considered because I've already looked at those 🤨

She bought one today!

We have another '08, this one not as pretty and with a lot more miles, but with good bones, I think.

At least I know what fluids are getting changed this week. Hope those tanks are still on sale...

🤔

Congratulations to your daughter and her new Miata!  What color did she get and ST or PRHT?

It's a metallic gray:

It's slightly beat up, needs a good cleaning, but the price was right and it will be a bit of an art project as time goes on.

It drives/shifts ok. PRHT works fine.

A few things need attention - the coolant tank is seriously yellow, it needs a fan relay (I hope that's what it needs) and the AC switch does not turn off the AC.

We'll sort it all out in time.

The NC AT was known to be very good.  I bought my 2008 with AT with 107k miles on it.  Put about 75k miles on it in 5yrs and never serviced the trans and it still shifted smooth.

Have fun getting the rest sorted with her!  Also, when you buy the Moroso coolant tank, buy the PS tank for your car to piggyback on the shipping.  Lol

I was thinking of going with the Davefab tank from Moss - any opinions? It basically saves enough $ over the Moroso to pay for new cap.

I have no first hand experience with the Dave Fab but quite a few others have it so...

Either way, it should be once and done vs. another plastic tank.

Buying the tank from Moroso with free shipping still works out cheaper than Moss. Go figure...

@livetodrive Right, that is where I ordered it from (both times). Pardon the sleep deprivation. Yesterday was a long one.

Amanda and I headed out to Berlin NJ in the morning to check out a '97 M edition. Low miles but in very sad shape overall (almost no brakes, cam angle sensor leaking, obvious bad bodywork). Dealer wants $8,995. I ask what's bottom line, he says $8,995. I say, "It needs this, this, this." He says, "It needs what it needs." We left.

Headed to Teterboro, checked out the '08, they were negotiable. The car has its issues but is in much better shape overall, so she bought it.

Left the house after 7am, didn't get home until 4pm. Long day, but she's happy, that's what counts. 😇

I didn’t see this post until now and first thing I thought was “they’ll have a MUCH better chance of finding an NC auto”’- and there we are. Nice color! Hopefully the shine can be brought out of that paint with a good hand wash and a coat or two of Megs cleaner wax. If “black” is coming off onto the microfiber towels when you are buffing the wax off, you are doing it right 🙂

Yeah, I don't think wax is going to save this car's finish. It's had a bit of a hard life. We did take it to the detailer to have all the body shop dust cleaned from the interior vents, nooks and crannies. My daughter is exploring the possibility of having it vinyl wrapped, but that's for another day.

The IMPORTANT stuff is now done. I successfully, with her help, replaced the blower motor (easy enough) and the blower resistor (extremely difficult). Then it was off to the mechanic for oil and filter, diff fluid change, trans fluid check, coolant tank installation and flush 'n fill (which they did twice, due to all the black stuff that was being flushed). Along with all of that, the rear struts/coils had to be replaced due to one side leaking and having a broken coil.

It's driving pretty nice now!
