I am looking for feedback concerning future rides in development. Specifically, for departure points. As we serve the Greater Lehigh Valley,  I am interested in starting cities.

Obviously,  certain areas have better roads in their vicinity, so that has always been a factor. But, as someone running for Club President, (yes I am pandering for your vote), it is important to me to know where our blind spots are.

You may have noticed the recent uptick in starting points in Bethlehem and Easton. This helps serve members in those areas. What can we do for you? Let us know!

It all depends on where the ride itself is going, and where the ride takes the lunch break.

In my opinion, where I live has no bearing on where I think we should start (although I live north of Schnecksville).

Our starting point should be determined by a few things:

1. Where are we going - while we meet at a location, the ride doesn't really "start" until we hit the road somewhere near that point. So it would be a little silly to meet in Fogelsville for a ride to the Deleware Gap and then from there to Klein's Farm. The Copper Penny was a good place to start that drive.

2. Ease of getting started - we need to meet at locations that allow us to all pull out and get to the "start" of our ride, even though that start could be maybe a mile from where we meet. Because of the traffic, the Copper Penny can be a little difficult, but we've done it and it isn't impossible.

3. Space to meet - Sheetz in Whitehall and the Copper Penny have large enough parking lots to accomodate all of us to the point where we aren't in anyone's way.

4. A bathroom - yeah, sometimes nice to make a pit stop prior to the start of the ride.

So I really don't think it matters where anyone lives for determining where we start our rides. While a central location to everyone sounds like a good idea, I don't think it matters, and could be more detrimental than helpful.

I think of it this way - I'm going for a nice long drive anyway, does it matter how far the start and end points are from my house?

@triviawayne

Thank you for your feedback. That sums up the motus operandi that we have been doing for years. The reason I posted this topic is that if, for instance, everyone who participates in drives lives in Schnecksville, we should probably have at least one or two drives start near there, or end there.

I would like to encourage more participation at our Club sponsored drives. We have a core group that turns out at virtually every one, and others that we may see once.

I will be running for president of the Club when elections open. I am not waiting to see if I win, in order to breathe my enthusiasm into every space that I can. I envision a day soon when 25 to 35 cars show up for a drive, led by two or three leaders. To that end, I am open to every reasonable suggestion, and I thank you for your well thought out suggestion.

How do we vote? Or rather, when do we vote?

@stormnd2club

Dave Sell is having our web host create a private message function, I believe.  There will be a two week nomination period that should open soon.  I will make sure everyone gets an email and it will be posted here.

Thanks for asking!

Wayne has very good points and I agree with all of them.  Sure, it would be great if more runs started and ended near the Easton area where I am but how many people might that alienate?  It's all about getting out and enjoying driving our cars so I see the drive to/from the starting/ending point an extension of that.  Maybe solo but I still smile.

Heck, one time I drove to Reading for Ken's ice cream drive but got a late start.  When I got to the starting point, everyone had already left.  I was sad I missed the run (made it the following year and well worth it) but I had a nice drive back to the Valley.

I average an hour and 15 minutes to get to most starting points, so most anywhere works for me. Bring it!

Most LVMOC departure points are a minimum of an 1.5 hours from my home.

That means I get to spend at least 3 additional hours enjoying my Miata every time! 😍 😍 😍

Can you move the starts further away, please?

🤣 🤣 🤣
