Hello members! I am looking forward to feedback concerning what I call "offseason drives".

I drive a Miata year round. There are many sunny and, if not warm, at least warm adjacent days throughout the year.

I like to get a little sun on my face on those days, and I think I may not be alone.  Since it feels like the days are shorter from November to April, I was thinking of developing drives of an hour or so in length.

These would either have no destination whatsoever, merely a spirited jaunt, or maybe a practical destination such as the Promenade Shops, thinking that if you are going there, make the trip a little more fun.

Is there interest?

Would you prefer a real destination such as an AMC or a store, restaurant,  or someplace else? Or nowhere in particular?

Would you participate?

These would be posted with short notice since they are weather dependent.  I am thinking a one or two day notice and an email sent out to everyone in addition to posting it on this site.

Hey Lou!  I like the way you think!  My Miata is my DD as well and I'd definitely be in for some impromptu drives in the "off-season".

No preference for me in regards to a destination or just wherever the roads may take us.

Please add me to the interested list.  🙂

Thanks for your input! I will certainly keep you in mind, and while my expectations of participation are muted, I don't want to be the lead AND the tail.

Although I guess I could announce the turns without a radio and prod Corrina to say "copy"

"Off Season?"  We don't need no stinkin' off season!

in my opinion there are many excellent driving days in late fall and early winter, and as long as the roads are salt-free I will drive my Miata, regardless of temperature.

Until the pandemic resolves itself indoor destinations will remain tricky, but driving is the main point so let's do it!

Considering that polar bear drive, I need to ask...when is the off-season?

For those who mothball their Miatas for the winter, there's an off-season (I used to do this when our Miata was a 3rd car for us).  But, for the rest of us, there's really no off-season, Wayne.  If the roads are clean and the weather isn't wintry, I'll go for a drive!

Lol about asking Corrina to reply "copy"!

No off-season for me.  Mine is my DD and will see the elements.  Now to find some snow tires!  🙂

I suggest getting another set of rims. That way swapping shoes is super easy. Jack Williams tire swaps mine. $21.20 with tax.

You may want to get nice, wider wheels for summer and keep the stock ones for winter. They are both durable and pretty heavy, so they take potholes well.

Yeah, that is the plan.  Have a dedicated set of snow tires/wheels sitting in the shed but they are 5 lug and won't fit the ND.

I am leaning towards getting snow tires for the OEM wheels and then buying some aftermarket wheels for summer.  Probably a 17x8 with a Miata friendly offset.

17x8x45 offset fits perfectly under your car.

Yep, just need to decide on which wheel and color.  Not a big fan of black wheels, maybe bronze.  Will need to see if I can find some pics of that color on the ceramic.
